Behind every beautifully seamless wedding is someone quietly orchestrating the magic. From managing timelines and suppliers to transforming a couple’s story into a day that feels deeply personal, a great wedding planner does far more than most people realise. In this feature, we sit down with Leah The Wedding Planner to talk about what inspired her to enter the world of weddings, the biggest misconceptions couples have about planning, and how she helps brides feel calm, confident, and supported from the very first decision to the final toast.
What inspired you to become a wedding planner, and what do you love most about working with couples?
I've always been passionate about creating meaningful experiences and weddings felt like the perfect place to bring that passion to life. Seeing a couple's vision transform from an idea into a beautiful, seamless celebration brings me so much joy. What I love most is building relationships with my couples, getting to know their story and translating it into a day that truly feels like them.
What's the biggest misconception brides have about wedding planning, and what's the reality?
A common misconception is that planning a wedding is mostly fun, simple, and effortless, just picking pretty things. Which is part of it! The reality is that it involves dozens of details, timelines, logistics, and decisions that can quickly become overwhelming, especially for couples who have never planned an event of any scale. A planner's role goes far beyond décor; we manage suppliers, problem-solve, protect your budget, and ensure everything comes together smoothly behind the scenes.
Another common misconception is that a planner is only for couples with big budgets. In reality, planners can support weddings of any size or budget, whether it's full planning or simply a power-hour session to help you get organised. Even a little guidance can make a huge difference and keep you from feeling overwhelmed.
What are the first steps a couple should take when they begin planning their wedding?
Start with the foundation:
Set your budget - this will guide every other choice you make.
Decide on your guest list - even a rough number helps narrow down venues, this stops you from looking at places that are too small or large and doesn't waste your time.
Choose your venue and date - once those are locked in, everything else can fall into place - decor, colour schemes, timelines and of course purchasing the dress!
After that, bringing a planner on board can save time, money, and stress right from the beginning.
How do you help couples stay calm, organised, and stress-free throughout the planning journey?
I guide my couples with clear timelines, regular check-ins, and structured planning tools so they always know what's coming next. Working from shared documents gives full transparency during the planning experience. I handle communication with suppliers, troubleshoot issues before they reach the couple and offer support whenever they need it. My goal is to create a calm, enjoyable process where they feel confident, cared for, and excited, not overwhelmed.
Are there any trends or ideas you're especially excited about for upcoming weddings?
Yes! I'm loving the growing trend toward intimate, personalised celebrations where every detail tells part of a couple's story. Bold colour palettes, playful textures and statement whimsical florals. I'm especially excited about multi-sensory elements, such as live entertainment, custom cocktails, and interactive décor like 'create your own bouquet station' that make the day unforgettable.
Couples logos is something I am loving! They can be used all through the stationary from initial save the date to the small day details on dining menus and printed napkins.
Can you share a favourite wedding moment you'll never forget?
One moment I'll never forget was walking into a completely empty, plain room on the morning of a wedding, and then seeing it transform throughout the day into the most breathtaking all-white celebration. Aisle meadows, a canopy of flowers and chandeliers, crisp white detailing, and a stunning mirrored aisle that caught the light beautifully! It was stunning to see.
How much can I expect to pay?
Pricing varies depending on the level of service you need, the size of your wedding, and how involved you'd like me to be:
Full planning starts from £1600 but is usually 10% of your wedding budget. For couples who want someone to work on all aspects of the wedding planning.
Partial planning from £800 includes a 6 week handover and coordination on the day. Perfect for couples who want to book everything and I take over closer to the wedding.
On-the-day coordination from £500.
All my packages are bespoke and I'm always happy to create a bespoke package tailored to needs and budget!
