How did you two meet?

We met at work in November 2012, he usually worked as a chef but did some over time as a waiter and I was a waitress, he came up and stood next to me in briefing and said hello and knew my name, I had NO idea who he was! He asked if I recognised him and I genuinely didn’t, he tried getting me to remember him and I was just blank. Anyway, we worked together for a few months, across different departments and always ended up paired together - mainly thanks to my mum who was the supervisor and clearly saw what was happening! He finally asked me on a date around end of December.

What about the proposal, how did it go?

The proposal was not what I was expecting, it was December 2019 and I was really poorly all morning, when I finally managed to drag myself out of bed and tried to make myself feel human, I came out onto the landing and found him on one knee ring in hand, very confused and disoriented with a migraine it took me a good minute to figure out what was happening and asking him 50 times if he was sure.

What was your wedding style/inspo?

The wedding was held at a beautiful venue in Scarborough called Hackness Grange, we got married outside above a lake, the sun was shiny and it was dreamy! Our colours were burgundy and navy which a lot of people said was “too dark for August” but we did what we wanted and the colours in the sun looked incredible!

Tell us about your dress!

I had a few dress appointments elsewhere and was never had that bridal feeling, the assistants never seemed overly bothered, I was rushed and put on a timescale. Each dress I tried was beautiful but not the one, I started to wonder if I would find my dress. I searched online for hours and hours looking at dresses and even looked at having a bespoke dress made, when I came across Rebecca Ingram Hattie wedding dress! I spent days looking at her, then I needed to find where I could try her on! I searched and found Elizabeth Kate. I was so nervous, and kept putting off trying her on, Kim was fantastic at putting me in really similar dresses and building me up to Hattie, I didn’t even need to try her on and I was in tears! Hattie is a stunning, strapless fishtail with large lace appliqués, I opted for the misty mauve colour instead of all over ivory.

What was your favourite part of your wedding day?

My favourite part of our wedding day, all of it! We had flower dudes that danced down the aisle, my dad walked me down and gave me away, my oldest and bestest friend travelled all the way from Devon and family travelled from Scotland to be with us, my new husband surprised me with alpacas after the ceremony (I’m obsessed!) we had an amazing caricaturist, ice cream cart, pizza van, an incredible band. It was a day filled with love and laughter and I would do it all again tomorrow!

Any changes? (Things you wish you’d done or wish you hadn’t!)

I wouldn’t change anything, but our cake cutting was a bit of a non event, we had 2 photos taken, no one even saw us do it! And I forgot I had the hand strap on my dress so my husband spent our entire first dance kicking my dress out of the way!

Any tips for brides to be?

  • If budget allows, get a live band! The dance floor was full all night, they were incredible and everyone had an amazing time.

  • But over everything, do what makes you and your fiancé happy, don’t stress the small stuff!
